The Wedding of Kay & Issa – A Joyful Multicultural Celebration at Covington Gardens

There are weddings that leave you smiling for days—and the union of Kay and Issa, the new Mr. and Mrs. Anki, was absolutely one of them. From the calm, peaceful atmosphere to the vibrant, joy-filled celebration, every moment of their day was a beautiful reflection of their love and the incredible support from their families and communities.

I met Issa and Kay last year for engagement portraits at the whimsical Tanger Bicentennial Gardens in Greensboro, NC. I could tell right off the bat that they were fun, kindhearted, and so in love!!! It was a blast capturing their portraits.

Held at the always-stunning Covington Gardens in Pleasant Garden, NC—a venue that never ceases to amaze me—Kay and Issa's wedding was the perfect blend of elegance, tradition, and fun. The day started with laughter and excitement as both the girls and the guys got ready, capturing so many sweet and candid portraits before the ceremony even began.

One of the most touching moments of the day was Kay’s emotional first look with each of her parents. While the couple chose not to see each other beforehand, their first look down the aisle was unforgettable—Issa’s face as he saw Kay walking toward him by the pond, surrounded by their loved ones, was pure magic.

The ceremony itself was held at the serene pond, where they exchanged vows under the soft sunlight, in front of a large group of family and friends who had gathered from near and far. The love and support surrounding them was palpable.

After the ceremony, we captured family and wedding party portraits before whisking Kay and Issa away for some dreamy husband-and-wife portraits throughout the venue. From lush garden paths to elegant architectural backdrops and that golden hour glow—they were a photographer's dream. The possibilities at Covington Gardens really are endless when it comes to capturing beautiful moments.

And then came the reception, which was nothing short of spectacular—one of the most electric celebrations I’ve ever witnessed.

The energy kicked off with a grand entrance that had the whole room on its feet, clapping and cheering. Kay and Issa made their way in with huge smiles and undeniable charisma, setting the tone for a night full of joy. Their choreographed first dance was both romantic and incredibly fun—they absolutely nailed every move, and the crowd went wild.

Dinner was a beautiful representation of their values and cultures, featuring a carefully curated vegan menu with rich, flavorful dishes that brought people together around the table. As guests dined, heartfelt toasts from parents, siblings, and lifelong friends had everyone laughing, tearing up, and reflecting on the depth of the love being celebrated.

Then the dance floor opened—and it never emptied. Seriously, these guests brought the energy and kept it going all night. There was a magical fusion of cultural music that blended rhythms and traditions from different parts of the world, and it was incredible to witness how seamlessly it all came together. It wasn’t just a party—it was a shared experience of joy, movement, and connection. Guests of all ages were dancing shoulder to shoulder, celebrating not just a couple, but the joining of two families and cultures in the most beautiful way.

Late into the night, Kay and Issa snuck away for a few more golden hour portraits under the stars, a quiet moment in contrast to the high-energy dance floor. It was the perfect way to wrap up a truly unforgettable day.

From start to finish, Kay and Issa’s wedding was a stunning celebration of love, unity, and heritage. It was peaceful, heartfelt, and wildly fun all at once. A day to remember, and a love story that will inspire many.
